These freezers feature a microprocessor temperature control system. Air-cooled, hermetically-sealed dual compressors work in unison and cycle on demand of the microprocessor temperature controller (-40°C units have a single-stage compressor). The automatic voltage compensator detects line frequency, monitors incoming voltage, and adjusts compressor voltage to reduce wear and tear on the compressors. Front-to-back air circulation system results in cooler compressor temperatures, increased performance, and longer compressor life. Easy-to-read, green LED continuously displays chamber temperature. The probe for the temperature controller is located inside the freezer chamber to show actual temperature of stored products.

Audio/visual alarm system alerts operator to over-temperature, under-temperature, power failure, door ajar, and low battery conditions. Battery back-up provides power in the event of a power failure.

Modern design includes an easy-to-grasp handle for one-handed operation. Dual wheel, locking swivel casters allow mobility as well as secure positioning. Hinged grille swings out, exposing the foam air filter for easy cleaning or replacement. Industrial-grade cabinets are constructed of high-quality, heavy-gauge, cold-rolled steel. The powder-coated finish is rust- and chip-resistant.

Upright freezers feature a triple-point silicone door gasket, three fixed stainless steel shelves, lockable casters, and a vacuum relief port for easy reentry following door closings. Acoustical mufflers and sound absorbing foam in the freezer base reduce the noise level in the lab. To reduce cold air loss, -86°C models feature four inner compartment doors (inner doors are optional on the -40°C models; see 14230-170 series).

Chest freezers feature a low-profile design that provides easy access to inventory. Spring-loaded hinges counterbalance the lid and ensure proper alignment, smooth closure, and a tight seal against the flexible gasket. Polystyrene sub-lids reduce cold air loss.
